A Survey Study Regarding the Pregnant Woman¢¥s Behavior in Behalf of the Total Development of the Fetus
Ma Kye-Hyang

Abstract
The pregnant woman¢¥s behavior in behalf of the total development of the fetus is rooted in traditional oriental idea and called ¡®Taegyo¡¯ in Korean.
The purpose of this study was to identify and find out factors related to the Taegyo in order for the nurses, to guide antenatal care.
A descriptive study was done using the survey method. The subjects were chosen by convenient sampling at two general hospitals in Seoul. The number of subjects were 95.
The data are summarized as follows:
1. Only 49.5% of the subjects were actively involved in behavior related to total development of the fetus.
2. 80.8% of the subjects recognized the importance of the behavior in behalf of the total development of the fetus.
3. It was found that the group having positive ideas about the behavior in behalf of the total development of the fetus were more involved in it than the group having negative ideas regarding this.
4. 30.2% of the subjects were not doing the Taegyo even though they had a positive idea about it.
5. Except for attitude toward Taegyo, it was not identified the factors related to it.
From this study it can be concluded that in Korean culture there is a lack of emphasis on the importance of the pregnant woman¢¥s behavior influencing total development of the fetus.
So more detailed study on factors related to this are needed in order to, encourage this behavior.
